All engine pulleys incorporate roller bearings that run at very high revs relative to engine speed. Increasing belt load and exposure to dirt or moisture accelerates bearing wear. NULINE engine pulley design replace moulded plastic with SG Iron (the same material used in harmonic balancers) or pressed steel offering far greater strength and resistance to wear when exposed to dirt. Special attention in manufacture is given to belt face contours and dimensions to ensure drive belt compatibility.

One or both of the two pulleys must have a connection "becket" below the sheave for connecting the end of the haul rope. These 4:1 systems have been used for many years, but recently the concept of a "jigger" has been developed. This is a system set up with a short length of rope that is used for making small movements to a load, which might be a stretcher, a fallen person awaiting rescue, or the rescuer.
